| What is distance-learning? |
To date, the CME market was dominated by two types of offerings:
Self-study of professional literature and educational events. |
| With the growing popularity of personal computers on one hand and increased costs and risks of mobility on the other, computer based training (CBT) is becoming a serious alternative. |
| With widespread access to the Internet, a transition from CBT to WBT (Web-based training or e-learning) has become feasible. CME content now is offered on demand with almost all the advantages of CBT programmes. |
| On-line CME enables medical practitioners to perform CME anytime and anywhere. Enhanced (broadband) WBT is on-line CME combining text, animated graphics, audio and video into fully-featured, interactive multimedia CME programmes. |
| EMN focuses on enhanced WBT, developing interactive, full multimedia on-line CME programmes to be used anytime and anywhere without any constraints on quality and quantity. |
